Hi. My name is Katrina Kalatzis. I'm 24 years old, living in Los Angeles, California, and as you may have gathered from the rest of this site, I am an aspiring set and lighting designer for theater and film. I graduated from New York University's Program in Educational Theatre in January of 2001, and though I have been trained in all aspects of theatre production, my primary focus has become scenic design.
Currently, I am working as an intern in the props department of HBO's "Six Feet Under." I have been on the show since January, and I spend most of my time shopping for the propmaster and helping out on the set, especially when the scene we're shooting includes a lot of food preparation or background artists. Earlier this year, I was a production assistant on "Todd TV," working for the same people who hired me for "Big Brother 4" last summer (Endemol USA).
I have served as the production designer for four short films. The first, "Peeping Tom," was named "Best Short Film" at the Hollywood Black Film Festival and took 1st place at the Phoenix Film Festival. "9 ½" and "Sonny Listening" are currently working the festival circuit, and "The Space Between" is in post-production. I also have an official listing on the Internet Movie Database now, so feel free to check that out if you have a moment.
I also work periodically as a stage manager, and I have held that position with the Mark Taper Forum, Interact Theater Company in North Hollywood, the Actors' Repertory Theatre in Palos Verdes and Quantum Theater Company, among others.
Eventually, I hope to be able to use my theatrical design experience in an educational setting. Over the past few years, I have designed and implemented pre- and post-show workshops for many productions in New York and Los Angeles. I have worked with the Dublin Youth Theater and the Graffiti Youth Theater in Cork, Ireland, studied and taught classroom drama sessions in London, and I have worked with children of all ages through the Public Corporation of the Arts in Long Beach, CA, and the dance department at Narbonne High School. I am also the resident lighting designer for Notre Dame High School's drama program, and I often serve as their set designer as well.
I have also been doing some freelance work as a web designer, which is a new and exciting challenge. My most recent project, a website for Genie Nakano, can be viewed at www.genieyogini.com.
Please feel free to contact me via email if you have any questions, comments, or employment opportunities. I am always looking for new projects. Thanks for visiting this site!
